Pan conveyors are continuous conveyors with a revolving chain as traction mechanism and pans, cells, cases or buckets as conveying elements for the bulk material. The standard names types, areas of application, properties, the resulting suitability for applications, in order to enable an appropriate selection of pan conveyors to be made when planning bulk material flow. The basics and recommendations provided are based on theoretical principles and practical experience. Design recommendations are given for bulk material feeding and guidance, wear lining, discharge point and tracking. Calculations for volumetric flow rate and mass flow as well as motion resistance, driving power and chain tensile load are represented.
