The standard describes the essential steps and elements for the development and operation of a knowledge based engineering (KBE) application. The standard provides help to the user for finding the answer for the following questions: What is KBE, where it can be used or not be used and why do we need it?; Which groups or roles are involved in a KBE project?; What kinds of KBE application are applicable and which is the correct application for my problem and how can an entry scenario be designed?; What IT tools are required, which conditions must be fulfilled in the company and what resources should be available (cost estimate)?; How can the benefits of a KBE application and the cost of its development be estimated?
